This week goes to the Boston University Rocket Propulsion Group (BURPG), who plan to launch their Starscraper rocket to suborbital space. Although not powered by a hybrid engine anymore, the team are busy preparing for testing of a 1500lbf Nitrous/Ethanol liquid fuelled rocket engine, two of which will replace the original hybrid. Check out here for more info and cool pics!!
BTW, BURPG, Instagram more!!!
Renderings of Quasar and Starscraper side by side with a human reference. The Quasar(middle) was the 2013-2014 school year project and the fourth hybrid rocket produced by BURPG. It had a max thrust of 2,600 pounds and was destined for an altitude of a 100,000 ft before it was retired to focus on the coming year. Next to it is our current project, Starscraper. Driven by the Mark V engine with a maximum thrust of 3,000 lbs. and a burn time of 60 seconds it will reach a maximum altitude of 430,000 ft! It will break five world records including the highest amateur rocket launch and the first university rocket to reach space. Currently launch date is this coming June. #worldrecord #Starscraper #Quasar If you would like to donate or just learn more, please visit our website BURocket.org.
