The Hound Launch Report

TU Wien Space Team launched their “The Hound” rocket at this year’s Balls event, hoping to break the European amateur altitude record and also to reach space, unfortunately not all went as planned.

The rocket broke up at booster burnout, with two possible causes observed. An early apogee detection of the backup altimeter or a high aerodynamic force due to crosswind.

This was the second attempt to break the record, while the record still stands, the team aims to be back in 2020 with a revised rocket to try again.
